I’m itchy!

Me at 19 weeks
Me at 19 weeks pregnant.

The morning sickness has faded and I do feel a burst of energy…until I stand up. I often forget I just can’t do as much anymore and wear myself out really quickly. Yesterday I went to Smart and Final and bought a 40 lb. bucket of laundry soap. I really thought I could do it. It hurt like mad. I’m not lifting anything else heavy till the baby is born.

The food cravings come and go and aren’t really too strong for me. Vinegar, salami, and ice cream (though not together) seem to be in my top picks. Doc said it was ok to eat the salami if I heat it up first. Hot salami is kinda nasty. Today I tried heating it and then cooling it in the fridge first. I plan on having it for dinner so we’ll see if it tastes ok. Looks really gross…the fat melted out of the salami when I microwaved it then congealed when I put it in the fridge. YUCK! I’m still going to eat it though. Peanut butter was also a big one for me earlier.

I’m finding dry spots all over me. At first I thought I’d just scraped myself up, since that’s so normal for me. Now I’m sure it’s just dry skin. My skin feels tight…like an over-inflated balloon. It itches. Some places are just yucky dry though. I started using lotion like mad. I’m trying to drink more water too but my stomach is so small now I can’t seem to drink much more than the recommended 70 ounces per day. I’d say I generally get about 80 ounces of water and 15-30 ounces of other stuff (milk and OJ) per day. You wouldn’t think I’d be dried out with all that but I am. Even my super thick pregnancy lotions don’t help all that much. I’ll ask the doc what can be done at my appointment this Friday.

We’re Having a Baby!

It’s a girl!

We just found out Friday!

100% certain.

She was moving all over the place during the u/s. So cute! Kinda freaky though…like a little floating skeleton. She kicked her legs (yes she has legs!) and waved and yawned…so freaking cute. I cried.

I got a really bad pain while in there too. They make you lie on your back for 40 minutes. Normally they don’t want me to lie on my back for more than 3 minutes…now I know why. It cuts off blood flow in a major vein. It hurt so badly but I ignored it because I thought it just had to be that way. When I started to see spots I decided I had to tell the technician. She had me roll onto my side and it went away after a minute or so.

Guinness kept squeezing my foot so I’d know everything was ok. I would’ve really been freaking out if he wasn’t there.

For the first 30 minutes of the test I couldn’t see the monitor but Guinness could. I could see his face though. About ten minutes in, the technician said “I don’t see a penis. I asked “So is it a boy w/out a penis or is it a girl?” SHE DIDN’T ANSWER ME! So I sat there paranoid for a few seconds. Guinness smiled. He thinks I’m crazy! She said it was 95% certain it was a girl. Later the baby spread her legs wide open and all the female parts were completely visible. The technician said it’s absolutely 100% a girl! AND, she’s healthy! Everything looked perfect. They even moved my due date up to February 12th…meaning she’s big.

The pictures on the screen were so clear. The ones they gave me to take home aren’t very good. On the screen I could practically count the number of toes. She had her hands balled up in little fists for most of it but did open the right one for a wave at one point. She stretched her hands way up over her head. She was moving so much but I couldn’t feel any of it.

T-Bone (my little brother) and I went to the cabin this weekend. It was so nice to be up there. I love it! Guinness stayed home to work on the baby’s room with his mom. I can’t really help at all. I get tired really quickly and no one wants me around those chemicals. I missed Guinness terribly though so me and T came home early on Sunday.

Sunday evening I felt the baby move a whole lot. She must have been doing somersaults or something. For about an hour I felt her poking me all over my belly. Haha…she moved just now.

I haven’t really gained any weight yet. I lost about 8 pounds in the 2nd month. Normal they say…morning sickness and loss of appetite. I still haven’t gained it all back. My belly’s bigger but other areas are actually smaller. I have my appetite back finally so I might pick up a few pounds now.

Guinness and I had a mid-pregnancy class a week or so ago. I seem to be doing quite well at eating right and keeping food down compared to the others. I am having a tremendous amount of difficulty in eating the 5 fruits and vegetables per day. I can’t seem to stomach them for some reason. I’m doing great in every other category though. Guinness is helping me remember to get the fruits and veggies. I don’t like them.

Sleep is getting harder too. I can’t seem to get comfortable. I still get lots of sleep, I just find myself tossing around all night. I have to get up to pee about a million times a night. I tend to roll to my back from time to time. Guinness will nudge me and make me roll to my side if he’s awake. He’s so sweet. I don’t want to have that pain again!

We’re still trying to think of names. I admit I’m a bit relieved that, it being a girl, Huckleberry is definitely out. With Wieland as a last name we’re looking at stronger names…German names mostly. We like unusual names too. I’m sure we’ll find the perfect name before she’s born. Now that we know the gender we can focus on just girl names.
