I’ve been quite busy lately.
Guinness and I hosted Thanksgiving for 18 at our house. Guinness made piles of super yummy food. It was quite fun but tiring. Luckily I had a few days to recover before going back to work. I spent the rest of the long weekend studying for my Broker’s test. I’m pretty sure I failed it worse than I’ve ever failed a test before. I’ll take it again after the baby comes. (Update: yes I did fail…and how).
I have more energy than I did earlier in pregnancy. That doesn’t seem to be particularly normal. Most women are even more tired their last trimester. I’m still quite exhausted a lot of the time but it seems more manageable than before. It is becoming more difficult to sleep. I can’t find a good position and if I do it doesn’t last very long. I have to change position constantly. But luckily I am sleeping. The other girls in our pregnancy classes seem to be having much more trouble than me. Getting out of bed is hard…still, sometimes I have no trouble at all.
I still forget I’m pregnant from time to time. Especially when I’m really focused and then need to stand up to get something. I’ll stand up really fast (like a normal person) and make myself light-headed or I’ll stretch a muscle uncomfortably. I’m actually in quite good shape I think. I get a little winded going up stairs or walking more than a few blocks but that’s because the little darling is pressing quite firmly against my lungs. She did turn though….about 3 weeks ago I think. That’s when I noticed I could eat and breathe again. (more on that later) I still haven’t gained much weight. It’s all in the belly (huge belly now). The doc says she could be born full term as little as 5 weeks 2 days from now! Crazy huh? Still, she’s not due for another 9 weeks (February 12th) and she could be late.
My taste buds are even better than before (along with my nose) and foods seem to be either fantastically delicious or so disgusting I don’t want to be in the same room. Not really too much of the latter. My tum is still squished though not as much as a few weeks ago. She’s turned head down now and it’s a but instead of what I’m hoping isn’t a giant head poking me in the ribs (legs and arms are tucked up in front of her). You can see her movements from the outside now. Little brother Tom says it’s creepy. She likes to take pokes at my bladder and now colon too. Not a fun feeling.
Guinness and I toured the hospital where I’ll deliver. It’s OK but doesn’t look so comfortable. The rooms are so tiny. According to the hospital most women go into labor (or at least notice they’re in labor) late night/early morning. A lot of women walk around in early labor (or pre-labor) for hours and hours (or days) without noticing it…we’ll, there’s pain but in very late pregnancy it’s apparently sorta painful nearly all the time.
I got a new car! I LOVE CARMAX! Guinness and I went out last weekend and bought a 2005 Toyota Prius for me. It gets great (and I mean great) gas mileage and the safety ratings can’t be beat! The safety is what I really care about! We considered lots of other cars (Accord, Civic, even big old Cadillacs) but the safety and cool gadgets made the Prius our first choice. I was getting pretty nervous in my little Geo. That car is not safe at all. Still it’s safer than Tom’s. I’d loan/give the Geo to him but he doesn’t fit. I don’t think he could operate the stick shift while being all squished up. His van is slowly dying….maybe it’s not so slow now. He’s put a lot of money into it but it isn’t worth much of anything now. His driver’s side door won’t even shut. I HATE it! Scares the crap out of me. He’s saving up for a new car but it’s going to take him a while. Anybody have a junker they want to give him? It’s for a good cause!
